Fire Damage and Your LA Insurance Policy
Is your home and car covered by LA insurance? Does your policy include fire damage? The typical policy does, but in an emergency, it is always better to be safe rather than sorry. Near the tail end of 2011, residents of Los Angeles learned all too well the importance of having the right coverage.
From December 30th to December 31st, a series of at least 31 fires were started in the Hollywood area according to the LA Times. 21 began on the first night over a period of 6 hours, while the other 10 were reported in the early hours of Saturday morning. Many of the fires were set to parked vehicles, but the flames then spread to nearby structures including homes. In fact, the home of Jim Morrison, a well-known musician, was damaged during this spree of arson. While apparently no serious injuries occurred, along with power outages, each fire probably caused thousands of dollars worth of damage.
How would you recover from such an incident? Could you replace your car or repair your home on your own if either was damaged or destroyed by a fire? Individuals who are backed financially by an LA insurance policy may not have to pay for such expenses alone.
