Covering Your Special Valuables with LA Insurance

6/11/2012 8:55:00 AM

The property coverage in your LA insurance policy for your home or business is designed to do two basic things – cover your building and provide coverage for contents. It is the latter that can sometimes cause issues, with people being caught off guard when they file a claim and discover that there were items that exceeded the insured amount.

Usually, when you set up your insurance, the amount of coverage you purchase for your contents is based on the value of those particular assets or a percentage of your building coverage. However, you may have special valuable items that exceed your policy limits. Jewelry, antiques, original artwork, musical instruments, specialized gym equipment, and photographic equipment are just some things that might require extra coverage. You may be able to increase your contents coverage if there’s just a single valuable item. Alternatively, it might be better to consider a policy endorsement or rider to cover valuable items specifically.

The important thing is not to assume that your property insurance will cover everything if you have special items. It’s better to be safe than sorry – call us so we can help you with your LA insurance. We can look at the available options and help you work out the best way to ensure that your special valuables are protected.
